The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. Our media has no shame. It would appear that Paramount Pictures is releasing what may be the fiction of the year as a documentary on Waco.

#LeavePublicSchool

There are a number of stories where young female teachers are seducing underage boys. I recognize that in high school, a young man’s hormones are raging and while I believe it is morally reprehensible, I understand why they might engage in this behavior. What I have a hard time understanding is why these female teachers would engage in this behavior. Once caught, your career is over even if you avoid jail time. How can they consider the risks worth it? Speaking as a teacher, this sort of behavior is never a secret in the student body. It’s just a matter of time before you get caught. In any case, as a parent, I will never expose my children (or grandchildren now) to this moral cesspool.

And showing that the men are every bit as depraved as the women who violate the public trust with your children, an IT employee with a Washington state school district has been arrested on suspicion of sexual voyeurism after he taped an electronic device to a campus urinal. In this case, the IT employee targeted a young male student, but the student found the device and recieved notes of a non-sexual nature addressed specifically to him which he turned over to school authorities. True Colors

Gabby Giffords gun control group released a report showing that they don’t just want your assault rifles and handguns. They want them all. The report is warning of the dangers of muzzle loading rifles. They claim that these guns are “extremely lethal firearms and devices” and that they skirt federal firearms laws. Really? Muzzle loaders? Yes, they are lethal by design as are all quality firearms, but they are certainly not manufactured to skirt laws. Obviously, they are referring to SilencerCo’s Maxim 50 which is a muzzle loader with a permanently attached sound suppressor and does not require a tax stamp to purchase. With regards to the word “silencer”, I think Inigo Montoya’s words of wisdom apply: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Fiction of the Year

Reader T.P. sent in the link to this YouTube video of the new Waco miniseries trailer. It looks like the new Star Wars film won’t be the only large budget science fiction release this year. As far as I can tell, this is a retelling of the FBI and ATF’s version of events. I bet they don’t say anything in the miniseries that one of the FBI HRT snipers on site was Lon Horiuchi (of Ruby Ridge infamy) and that there were unaccounted for, expended sniper rounds from his sniper perch that were discovered which probably started the whole shooting match. It is also a good bet that there will be no mention of the military team that took part in the raid and actively fired upon the Branch Davidians keeping them from escaping the burning inferno.

While not excusing the actions of the Branch Davidians, the actions of the government in this case are a prime example of how the government can demonize any American through propaganda and create a situation where law enforcement (or military) will fire on American citizens.

Zimbabwe Coup

When Zimbabwe’s Army Chief takes a trip to China and is met by two of the most senior members of China’s military and then orchestrates a military coup, questions start getting asked. Was the visit to warn China of the impending coup? Was it to receive the blessing of China since Zimbabwe obviously has large Chinese investments in it? China is actively pursuing resources on the African continent and the visit suggest Chinese involvement in some way, but not much else is known at this time.

Irony

The American Heart Association president has spent time over the last year attacking the usage of coconut oil as “dangerous” and suggested that the solution was blood pressure drugs. He also came out against the use of butter in cooking, suggesting that highly processed vegtable oils be used instead. The irony of John Warner suffering a minor heart attack is not lost on us. Canola oil, the AHA’s choice of oils is actually made from genetically modified rape seed and has clear ties to heart disease. That certainly makes you wonder doesn’t it? I much prefer naturally produced oils and fats in moderation. Thanks to DSV for the link.

Millennials and Communism

A recent poll found that fifty percent of millennials think that they would rather live in a communist or socialist country than a capitalist democracy. This is clearly the result of a generation of brain washing from our educational institutions. It is also a failure of parents to impart the values of our country to their children. Now, reader S.M. sends in a link to this article with a message to millennials: Hey Millennials: Communism Sucks, I Lived It.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via ourContact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. Hugh,

I watched the trailer. They state “A UPS driver delivered a case of hand-grenades to the church”. The UPS driver then did his duty and informed police officials. This was a true event and was the beginning point of the tragedy that followed.

Slight problem: the “Case of hand-grenades”: were only cast-iron paper-weights. These were manufactured for the US military to use for training purposes. They have the same size, weight, dimensions of a real hand-grenade (to the uninformed, they look like a hand-grenade)but are no more lethal than a rock the same size and weight.

These training grenades (then and now) are openly sold in sporting good stores, gun stores and via mail order catalogs all over the USA.

Then, of course, was the “surveillance”. The operatives heard what they thought was automatic weapons being fired. What they actually heard were semi-automatic rifles with trigger attachments that simulated automatic weapons fire (an earlier version of the now evil “Bump-stocks”). The search warrant was to search for and seize these non-existent unregistered automatic weapons.

For the uninformed the non-existent “prohibited items” (i.e. hand-grenades and automatic weapons) could have been legally owned had the proper license been acquired and taxes been paid.

It’s no leap in logic to conclude that the US Government attacked and murdered all these people because certain licenses had not been acquired, nor taxes paid for these non-existent destructive devices (the paper weights) nor the automatic weapons (common off the Wal-Mart shelf semi-automatic rifles with trigger attachments).

I’ll conclude (as I don’t want to write a book here) with the nationwide statement on TV by US Attorney General Reno telling the US that they had to attack this church because of child abuse.

    Two major problems:
1.) Child abuse (unless it takes place on federal real estate, or crosses state lines) is not a federal crime and she had no jurisdiction to arrest, or to prosecute, for child abuse.
2.) The local Sheriff and District Attorney had previously found there to be no child abuse taking place at the church.

    Respectfully submitted,

  2. I don’t quite understand the governments fascination with cults. There was a smaller cult in our area in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Cult is a loosely used term. This was barely a cult. I know inside details. It was a large conservative family that lived a very self sufficient lifestyle. The father was a good guy, but the mother encouraged the sons to rape the daughters. There was a lot of mind control going on. The father was convicted of sexual misconduct and died in prison. It is extremely sad. He was an innocent man. But the authorities wanted that cult broke up, so they framed him. They got 2 young boys to testify against the old man, and they used that as evidence. It is so wrong, there is no justice in the justice system anymore.

  3. Anyone who thinks they’d rather live in a communist or socialist society should feel free to leave the US and do so. Part of a true free society is freedom to leave, I wish more would take advantage of it.

  4. There is something in human nature, part of the limbic system or the “lizard brain” that makes us want to follow leaders blindly, attack what is “not self” and abdicate personal responsibility for ideology.

I will not be led. I will work WITH those who have more experience and can help me achieve my goals more efficiently and successfully, but from auto mechanics to surgeons, well diggers to dentists, only I make the final decisions. It keeps me on the hook, no one to blame for the outcomes but myself (and boy there have been some outcomes!) but there is no other way for a human to live.

Those folks at Jonestown were fooled by Jones’ charisma, and its a tragedy they lost their lives; but it takes two to make a successful con. The “mark” always wants something for nothing, too.

You can’t be flummoxed if you’re honest enough with yourself for the first questions in you mind in any transaction to be “Why is he doing this? Why am I? What’s in it for him? What’s in it for me?”

  5. When less than one percent own half of all wealth, it should not be a surprise that young people are looking for alternatives! I always though I was well off, until I befriended a guy with real wealth.

I am a firm believer in free market capitalism, but it is an odd feeling to look at a painting in his den worth dozens of your upper middle class home!

To make matters worse, the disparity is growing! The new tax plan would not really benefit someone like myself in the 200k income range, but my friend worth hundreds of millions, would reap ten of millions in tax savings due to his business interests!

  6. Aubrey, jealousy is an ugly thing. Class and race warfare are something Democrats talk about all the time. A lack of God and what is important in life is lacking in our country.

  7. Ron, I do not disagree with you about jealousy or any other Deadly Sins. At the same time I see nothing in the Bible that supports our form of government over any other. What we are allowing now, will lead to class warfare, just as it has done in the past.

    Political Atheist

One who is too intelligent and informed to believe any of the political ideologies being pushed today. Their knowledge of government has evolved to the point that they cannot trust, in any way, shape, or form the fairy tales and coincidences peddled by people in power, regardless of the party a politician proclaims him/herself to be in. A political atheist understands that these people tend to be the worst of humanity– greedy, sociopathic, narcissistic, lying criminals and are not worthy of supporting; especially not with a vote.

To trust a politician is the ultimate act of misplaced faith.

  8. Regarding pedophile teachers and others.

What I am about to say could offend some and should not be construed as endorsement of the behavior.

Much of what we call pedophile behavior flies in the face of biology and history. People are sexually mature in their teens. People used to marry in their teens. Woman in their teens are at some of their peak years for safe child bearing and in years past that was when they started bearing children with society’s full blessing. Nearly all of us have ancestors that reproduced in their teens and we would not exist if they had not. People often died young and would never have reproduced had they not done it early.

Our modern society requires a long time to acquire the necessary skills to live a successful life. In addition to that IMO we arrest the development of teenagers in many ways. The concept of a “teenager” vs. simply an adult or child is a relatively new social construct that did not exist for much of history.

Do I think this excuses people? No. Our modern world does require a longer period of development and we must enforce that. But it does say that the battle to keep young people away from sexual behavior before they are ready with respect to their social development is a very tough battle because it flies in the face of both biology and most history.

    1. @JBH
I don’t dispute your claims. However, my whole complaint revolves around the issue of “trust”. The public school has been placed in a position of trust. They are the parent to your child during the time your child is in their care. With few exceptions, the school has the same legal rights over your child as you do when they are in class or on a school function. In fact, in many places, where homeschooling is not an option and private schools can not be afforded, the parent has no choice other than to send their child to this corrupt institution or face legal consequences.
Regarding the sexual impropriety of teachers, I would put the violation of this public trust on par with incest since the responsibility of the child rests in their hands. It’s the same standard as a foster parent and it’s abhorrent no matter how you look at it. There can be no consensual sex between a student and a teacher. period.

  9. I don’t think the millennials have been brainwashed. Consider their experiences over their formative years. They’ve seen their parents lose jobs as multinationals ship jobs overseas and any jobs their parents can find pay significantly less. They watch 600K people go bankrupt per year with medical expenses the major cause. They see their grandparents struggling to afford food, shelter and medical care. They’ve seen corporate america get rich selling dangerous products, laying off employees, externalizing costs, buying politicians, and building oligopolies. They’ve watched corporations shed their underfunded pension obligations through bankruptcy while the executives take home fat bonuses and separately funded pensions.
They’ve gone off to college, at a cost unaffordable to most without loans, gotten their degrees only to find there aren’t enough jobs to fully employ their skills nor enough jobs with salaries sufficient to pay off their loans. They’ve watched the rise of the gig economy and the associated lack of job security. the US has been taken over by Crony capitalism and it isn’t good for most. Then they look to Europe (not russia, china, or venezuala) and see economies that don’t have the same degree of problems that the US has as their economies blend the best of capitalism and socialism (look at the numbers). They really aren’t that different from the protest voter being left behind that voted for Trump.
