JWR’s Recommendations of the Week

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on the Old Sneelock series of instructional videos on YouTube.

Books:

I may be biased (since I published it), but I highly recommend this inspirational and truly uplifting book: My Thailand Calling: Following Jesus Cross-Culturally: A Missionary’s Journey On The Frontiers.

The Survival Medicine Handbook: The essential guide for when medical help is NOT on the way

Movies:

I’ve mentioned this film before, but it bears repeating: 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

Despite some quite unrealistic injections of 21st Century morality, this movie about WWII resistance operatives is worth watching: Allied.  (Warning: Definitely not one for the kids!)

Instructional Videos (Old Sneelock):

Reader W.F. suggested the great Old Sneelock series of videos. He mentioned this one, as an example: Sharpening a One Man Crosscut – Pt 1 – What is a One Man Crosscut Saw? by Old Sneelock’s Workshop. W.F.’s Comment: “This one seemed particularly appropriate to cutting firewood now for the winter. And there are many more with scarce knowledge of how to maintain and use our historic tools. I personally started snagging [the saws] I could find years ago, without knowing what related tools I needed to sharpen, set teeth, how to vise them correctly, etc. His channel says it has over a thousand videos, and is a great in-depth and expanded scope of topics that Wranglerstar has featured.”

Gear:

Lynx 3′ One Man Crosscut Saw

If you own any Red Dot or other optics that use “coin” style batteries, then this battery charger is a must:  Zackees Rechargeable USB Coin Cell Charger. LIR2032 (LR2032) Batteries Included, Replaces CR2032 batteries. It is noteworthy that the 2032 is almost ubiquitous in U.S. car key “fobs” for car door locks and alarms.

Luminox Men’s 3051.BO Navy Seal Colormark 3050 Series, Quartz Movement with Rubber Band, Black Watch

AmazonBasics AA Performance Alkaline Batteries (48 Count)
