Wiw dark periwinkle for high summer

Hi guys,
The last few days have seen temps of around 40 Celsius here, and here are two outfits featuring dark periwinkle. I know my style goals are artistic, boho and feminine, which these particular outfits aren’t really but I love the colour and wanted to give it some wear. Any critique is welcome. Also I wondered if the bracelet and shoes in #1 were too clashing. I think they were. Thanks for any feedback.
Oh, and both of these outfits were incredibly comfy so I was happy.

You look great!I love the shirt dress on you ,the colour is lovely.I don’t think the bracelet clashes at all.I know what you mean about the shoes,the style is perfect with the dress but maybe a different colour?

Cardiffgirl- thank you for your compliments about the shirt dress. It’s a little boxy but I can live with that. Yes... I do like the shoes.... but they may be a little off here...

Oh these are lovely; the shirt dress is really terrific especially. I like your accessories - I don't see a clash. Sometimes a lighter/nude sandal is nice for warm weather; perhaps you might enjoy that if the black feels off?

Lovely dresses, the colours are beatiful on you! The shirt dress is fab and I love the bracelet with your shirt dress - it looks fantastic. I wouldn’t worry about the shoes, but if it bothers you, agree with torontogirl, a nude sandal would be great.

OMG....i just googled what 40C is in fahrenheit, WOW that's hot....i'd be melting...you look put together and fashionable...
agreeing with TG shoes look good, a lighter color or nude shoe/sandal might be a great way to change it up

Periwinkle joy! Both colors are so beautiful on you. I am glad you wore them. I especially love th shirt dress with the bracelet. I don’t think the shoes are off, I think they add an element of fun. I do think that a nude pump or a light colored sandal would be pretty. The second dress is lovely, too and perfect for a hot day. To my eye the black foot wear looks a bit heavy...maybe too much of the foot is covered by black? I can’t quite pinpoint it. Again, I think a lighter color would be pretty, but that is just me. Overall, I consider your outfits to be beautiful!

Wow, that periwinkle is definitely your color! Beautiful! I really like the bracelet/shoe combo in #1. The bright solid dress is a great palette for a mix of accessories, imho. I agree with Mainelady that the black shoes in #3 are a little heavy. Something lighter to bookend your hair would be pretty. Great necklace with the dress!

The line from Courtney Barnett’s “Avant Gardener” comes to mind — “it’s 40 degrees and I feel like I’m dying...”

But you look great! That’s one of my favorite colors and not terribly easy to find in recent years. Love both outfits.

Both outfits look great. I DO see the combination of artistic, boho, and feminine coming through here. I agree with other posters that lighter/nude footwear with. Both outfits might be a way to change it up — that could bring a little lightness that would add the “gentle” element you are seeking. Maybe also metallic footwear?

Fabulous color on you! The shoe color is fine to me- yes you could experiment with more summery colors but would not wait for that to wear what you have.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies, and all the positivity. Yes, as some suggested it may be nice to try either nude flats or metallic. Actually, I hadn’t considered metallic shoes at all so thank you for bringing that to my attention. It would be lovely to have some rose gold sandals....
It’s nice to know that people like the colour, I like it, although I do feel like it’s very bright. As someone mentioned, dark periwinkle hasn’t been around in the shops for ages, in fact both these dresses are 4 seasons old. I have a dark periwinkle singlet that I thrifted too- although I’m still figuring out how to style that one. This forum is so helpful. Also, looking at the pics again I realize a clutch purse could go well with the first outfit, and a tan crossbody with the second outfit.

Love these colours on you! If you feel the shirt dress is too boxy, you can always belt it (even with a silk scarf if you want to keep the boho vibe going & would find leather to be too restricting in hot weather). I don't think the bracelet clashes, but some wooden jewellery may help to bookend your hair whilst still looking boho too.

The second dress is pretty too - lovely print and colours! I feel like the necklace gets a little lost in the pattern, though. Also, I don't know about you but, I don't like wearing necklaces in hot weather (unless over my clothes) because they tend to stick to sweat/ my skin. That might not be a problem for you, but I think earrings would look lovely with this dress as well

I also agree with the others about the lighter footwear - espadrilles in a cotton, canvas or rope fabric would be a good fit for a boho, summery vibe. Ankle wraps may be too restricting in hot weather too, but it's up to you if you go for flat canvas (like TOMS) or a wedge rope heel style. Bonus points if you also have a straw bag or floppy hat lying around - way to pull in the artistic & feminine side to your boho look whilst still being safe in the sun

Thanks so much for you insightful comments. Wooden bracelets is a fantastic idea! I will definitely incorporate that next time... also I think some Tom’s in a natural colour would be excellent, especially if I was going to really do the casual beach boho. A straw bag would be nice too.
As for belting the first dress with a scarf- I could certainly try it- although I have a bit of trouble with belting as it seems to look a little strange on me but maybe I just haven’t found the right dress/belt combo.
Also it’s hard to say whether the necklace from the second dress gets lost with the pattern, I was going for an arty maximal look, but I do take your point.

Periwinkle is a fantastic colour on you! I especially love #1. Shoes don't look too heavy to me, nor do they clash with the bracelet. Lighter shoes would definitely be worth playing around with, esp since you have light hair to "bookend" with.

These are both great hot weather looks and I share your love for periwinkle blue!!

I sometimes feel I have shoes that are good with an outfit, but not my ideal first choice - but to have my ideal first choice I would need a huge closet that is unrealistic for me. I think the black works well in both cases here and I would rewear knowing you look fab. Light would also be fab if you have them.

Thanks for your enthusiasm about the dark periwinkle, it’s a fun colour, and not as hard to wear as some brights. Where I live people predominantly wear neutrals but I gotta have colours!
As for the shoes, yes, there are so many amazing shoes available.... but we must draw the line somewhere! I do have a pair of nude sandals that I will try with those dresses, but the shape of the particular sandals is a bit clunky so I’ll see how that goes. Thanks again
